The Fort Thompson was built at the mouth of Soldier Creek along the Missouri. It opened in 1864, but the military closed it just three years later. However, the settlement of Fort Thompson lives on today. As a matter of fact, it's the largest town on the Crow Creek reservation with a population of about 1300.
