    Aristotelia serrata is a small tree with distinctive broad, thin leaves with marginal teeth of various sizes. Often the lower surface of the leaf and leaf stalk is pink to red and the branchlets and young leaves are covered with hairs. The small flowers are in various shades of red to pink to cream.
    Native of New Zealand, and only suitable for the milder and moister parts of the country, where it grows well. There are good specimens at Inverewe in Wester Ross, and at Castlewellan, Co. Down.
