Erectile dysfunction is the inability of achieving or maintaining enough stiffness for penetrative sex. There are many factors like healthy and functional nerves, and good blood supply, which play vital roles in achieving an erection. In diabetes, there is damage to nerves and blood vessels due to long-term impaired blood sugar levels causing erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction injection, like alprostadil, and papaverine, is an effective way to treat people who can't achieve erections or have enough stiffness for penetrative sex. The injection is applied directly on the midpoint of the penis to prevent interference with blood vessels and nerves. The erection should generally be achieved within 5-15 mins of application of the injection. If the condition is due to diabetes mellitus, then necessary medications must be taken to keep blood sugar levels under control. Other medicines to treat this condition is pills containing sidenafil which increases the blood circulation and helps in achieving erection for longer duration.

Treatment for ED will depend on the underlying cause. You may need to use a combination of treatments, including medication or talk therapy. Your doctor may prescribe medication to help you manage the symptoms of ED. You may need to try several medications before you find one that works.
Eating a heart-healthy diet, doing routine exercise, and taking a statin, or another prescribed cholesterol-lowering drug, can bring your cholesterol to healthy levels, decreasing your cardiovascular risk and potentially alleviating your ED symptoms along the way.
