    Akmola Region is a region (or an oblys in Kazakh) of Kazakhstan. It is mostly known for having the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, in it. Akmola region's capital is officially Kokshetau. The mayor (or akim) of the region is Ermek Marzhikpaev.
    The region borders North Kazakhstan Region in the north, Pavlodar Region in the east, Karagandy Region in the south, and Kostanay Region in the west. The Sileti river flows through the region. Aqmola means "the white burial" in Kazakh. The region is administratively divided into seventeen districts and the cities of Kökşetau and Stepnogorsk.
    Urban communities of Akmola oblast include Kokshetau city (capital city of the region), politically separated Astana city (Kazakhstan capital), Akkol, Atbasar, Makinsk and Stepnogorsk. The Scientific Research Institute for Grain Farming is located at Shortandy.
