History. It was founded on June 26, 1580. In the year 1751, a violent earthquake destroyed the city, which led several of its inhabitants to move to a sector known as Alto de la Horca, and as a result, on September 25 of the same year the official transfer of city to said place, known today as Chillán Viejo.
