For more than a thousand years, we have called our homeland Sakartvelo, which literally means “The country of Georgians” (Sa- and -o are affixes). Prior to this, two main political spaces existed here: Kartli in eastern Georgia (the Iberia / Iveria of western sources) and Egrisi (Kolkhida / Lazika) in the west.
