Ethernet MTU The Ethernet frame is on Layer 2 of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI). The standard size MTU for Ethernet is 1,500 bytes. This does not include the Ethernet header of 18 or 20 bytes, and is the theoretical maximum amount of data that can be transmitted by the physical link.
