    On August 21, 75 lawyers from 20 states and the District of Columbia meet in the town hall courtroom in Saratoga Springs, New York, to establish the American Bar Association. James Overton Broadhead of Missouri is the first president of the ABA. The first ABA Annual Meeting outside Saratoga Springs, New York is held in Chicago.
