WEBIn the human karyotype, chromosomes 1, 3, 16, 19 and 20 are metacentric or near-metacentric. When the centromere is located off-center with one arm longer than the other, the chromosome is called “submetacentric”. Chromosomes 2, 4, 5, 6–12, X, 17 and 18 are submetacentric.
