      People have traditionally used sappan wood as an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, natural dye, herbal formula, or health drink since ancient time (Vardhani, 2019). The wood also plays the roles of analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immunostimulatory, cytotoxic, and anti-oxidant (Ulung, 2020;Widowati, 2011). ...
      It is used as a natural dye to color food and beverages and as a traditional treatment for diarrhea, diabetes, and blood stasis. The phytochemical compounds in C. sappan, mainly the homoisoflavonoids brazilin, sappanone A, protosappanin, and hematoxylin, can potentially be used to protect cardiovascular organs.
      The natural dye extracted from the B. sappan root, stem, and fruits are used as a traditional dyeing agent in many Southeast Asian countries. The red dye from the stem and yellow dye from the root is used to dye cotton, wool, and silk cloths in the Philippines (Subansenee 1995 ).
      In Indonesia, Sappanwood (Secang) is traditionally consumed as herbal drink to boost immune system, kill bacteria, treat diarrhea, and tumor. Caesalpinia sappan L. contains homoisoflavonoids and phenols such as brazilin, brazilein, and other active ingredients.
