    The Taoist culture and temples of Mt. Laoshan are very famous. At the peak of Taoism, it was said that there were nine palaces, eight Temples and seventy-two nunneries. The number of Taoist had reached above one thousand. While later many buildings were destroyed, amongst those still remaining the Taiqing Palace is the largest.
    The Laoshan Taiqing Palace was first built in 140, and formed a considerable scale in 905 with the efforts of several famous Taoists. After that, more buildings were added to it. During the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the temple became a Taoist temple of Quanzhen Sect, it got great support from the imperial court and its status was elevated greatly.

Temple of Supreme Purity, or known as Tai Qing Gong in Chinese, is the largest and oldest Taoist temple complex on Mount Laoshan.
    The latter name was used by the Taoist Master Changchun who served as the top religious affairs official to Genghis Khan. In the course of history, numerous palaces, Taoist temples, and nunneries have been constructed on Mount Lao. At the peak of Taoist worship, Mount Lao was home to about 1000 monks and nuns.
