    The study built on a theory proposed by veteran firefighters Mick Tisbury, Tony Martin and Alan McLean. The three all worked at the Fiskville training centre, where a cancer cluster has been linked to the deaths of 16 people.
    Up to 87,000 people are thought to have been put at risk of exposure to highly toxic per- and poly-fluoroalkyl chemicals (PFAS) at the Country Fire Authority’s Fiskville training college, north-west of Melbourne, during its operation between 1972 and 2015. Sixty-nine cancer cases that resulted in 16 deaths have been linked to the contaminated site.
