    The campaigns of the Second Seminole War were an outstanding demonstration of guerrilla warfare by the Seminole. TheMicos Jumper, Alligator, Micanopy and Osceola, leading less than 3,000 warriors, were pitted against four U.S. generals and more than 30,000 troops.
    The first Seminole War persuaded Spain to give Florida to the United States before it was lost through conquest. The transfer was completed in 1821. Without being consulted, the Florida Indians, including the Seminoles, were transferred to U.S. rule.
    All three wars centered on control of land use in the Florida panhandle and the ultimate submission of the Seminoles to the Indian removal policies of the Federal Government. Volunteer militia from neighboring states, including Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee, fought along side the Regular Army.
