King's Highway 17, more commonly known as Highway 17, is a provincially maintained highway and the primary route of the Trans-Canada Highway through the Canadian province of Ontario. It begins at the Manitoba boundary, 50 km (31 mi) west of Kenora, and the main section ends where Highway 417 begins just west of Arnprior.
The Trans-Canada Highway in Ontario was designated as Highway 17 in 1965, as it was the most direct route between the Quebec-Ontario border and the Manitoba-Ontario border. The designation of Highway 17 also made it easier for travelers to navigate and recognize the route, as it is consistent throughout the province.
It was built along a former Canadian Pacific Railway right-of-way, and has two westbound passing lanes in separate parts, and one eastbound passing lane . Although it is not an official part of the Trans-Canada Highway, Highway 17A is designated as the through route when travelling into Kenora on the Trans-Canada.
The Highway 17B route through Thessalon travelled along Lakeside Drive, Frances Street, Huron Street and River Street, dipping south of the present Highway 17 route through the town. Highway 17B connected to Highway 129 at its eastern connection to Highway 17. The Thessalon Bypass was opened in 1958.
