    DEFINITION
    1. a port on the Baltic coast of eastern Europe, capital of the Russian region of Kaliningrad; population 421,700 (est. 2008). It was known by its German name of Königsberg until 1946 when it was ceded to the former Soviet Union under the Potsdam Agreement and renamed in honor of Kalinin. Its port is ice-free all year round and is an important naval base for the Russian fleet.
