Nestled within the valleys of the Tiber and Patapsco Rivers, Ellicott City is a charming city with historical significance. The Old Town District has historic buildings, upscale restaurants and cafes, and antique stores. A couple of historical attractions are the Thomas Isaac Log Cabin, the ruins of Patapsco Female Institute on a hilltop, and the oldest surviving railroad station, Ellicott City B & O Railroad Station Museum. The museum displays an array of engines and carriages and allows visitors to have a ride over model trains and a carousel. Surrounding the banks of the Centennial Lake lies the Centennial Park with lovely landscapes and wetlands, offering access to boat ramps and paved loop trails. Also, Patapsco Valley State Park located within the forested hills features horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking trails. There are public fishing areas and other regions ideal for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking.
