The Belgae ( / ˈbɛldʒiː, ˈbɛlɡaɪ /) were a large confederation of tribes living in northern Gaul, between the English Channel, the west bank of the Rhine, and the northern bank of the river Seine, from at least the third century BC. They were discussed in depth by Julius Caesar in his account of his wars in Gaul.

During the late 2nd or early 1st century bc, a small band of Belgae crossed to Britain. After further Gallic victories (54–51 bc) by Caesar, other settlers took refuge across the Channel, and Belgic culture spread to most of lowland Britain.
The tribe is thought to have inhabited territories centred on the modern counties of Hampshire, Somerset and Avon. The cantonal capital of the Belgae was one of the three attributed to the tribe by Ptolemy but was given no special attributation, indeed, Venta is listed last among the trio (vide supra).
Under Diocletian, Belgica Prima (capital Augusta Trevirorum, Trier) and Belgica Secunda (capital Reims) formed part of the diocese of Gaul. Diviciacus (?) The Belgae had made their way across the English Channel into southern Britain in Caesar's time.
