Vakhtang I was the king of Iberia, a Georgian kingdom, in the 5th century AD. He is credited with founding Tbilisi near the hot springs.
Teimuraz II was the king of Kartli and Kakheti, two Georgian kingdoms, in the 18th century AD. He was a vassal of the Safavid and later the Qajar dynasties of Iran. He made Tbilisi a vibrant political and cultural center.
Heraclius II was the king of Kartli and Kakheti in the 18th century AD. He was the son and successor of Teimuraz II. He sought Russian protection from the Iranian and Ottoman threats and signed the Treaty of Georgievsk in 1783.
Agha Mohammad Khan was the founder and first shah of the Qajar dynasty of Iran in the late 18th and early 19th centuries AD. He invaded and devastated Tbilisi in 1795 to reassert Iranian sovereignty over Georgia.
Gamsakhurdia was the first president of Georgia from 1991 to 1992. He led the Georgian independence movement from the Soviet Union. He was ousted by a coup d'état and a civil war broke out in Tbilisi.
