    Hickories (genus Carya) are members of the walnut family, Juglandaceae. Members of Juglandaceae have large aromatic leaves, which are usually alternate, but opposite in members of Alfaroa and Oreomunnia. The leaves are pinnately compound, or ternate, and usually 20 to 100 centimeters long.

    Hickory is a city in North Carolina primarily located in Catawba County and is the 25th most populous city in North Carolina. It is located approximately 60 miles (97 km) northwest of Charlotte. Hickory's population in the 2022 United States Census Bureau estimate was 44,084.
    Color can also vary being coppery brown to green. The hickory can be found across North America from Canada to Mexico in every USDA hardiness zone. It grows best in moist, rich soil often found at the bottom of hilly slopes at the edge of forests. The species is immensely valuable in that it is used for its wood, nuts, and sap.
    A dozen or so species are native to North America (11โ€“12 in the United States, 1 in Mexico ), and 5โ€“6 species from China and Indochina. Another Asian species, beaked hickory, previously listed as Carya sinensis, is now treated in a separate genus Annamocarya, as Annamocarya sinensis .
