Southern Indiana is a geographic and cultural region that generally comprises the southern third of the U.S. state of Indiana and borders the states of Illinois to the west, Kentucky to the south, and Ohio to the east.

Evansville is the third-largest city in the state of Indiana and the largest city in southern Indiana.

The glaciers of the last ice age did not extend to southern Indiana. However, when the glaciers from further north melted, the flood waters made their way to the south and carved the rivers and hills that dominate this part of the state today.

The Hoosier Apex is this little portion of southern Indiana (mostly cities/areas just north of the Ohio River) that has a dialect quirk. People in the area speak in a cadence and accent that's linguistically similar to the American South.
