Domestic water buffalo have a huge population of up to 165 million across 74 breeds, but wild water buffalo are far less common. Due to their smaller numbers, wild water buffalo tend to stay in herds of five to eight cows plus their offspring, sometimes with a bull. These herds can reach up to 30 individuals.
