Bienville Parish History
In 1848 the lower part of Claiborne became Bienville Parish. Bienville parish is named for "Father of Louisiana", Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Bienville founder of New Orleans and the first French Governor of Louisiana. The first parish seat was Sparta.
