The axolotl is paedomorphic (that is, it retains its larval traits throughout adulthood). Axolotls prey on a variety of aquatic organisms, including fish, mollusks, aquatic insects, and other axolotls. Although captive axolotls may live as long as 15 years, axolotls live for only about five or six years in the wild.
