Safford Mills Inn The oldest house in Bennington Village circa 1774, the inn was built by Samuel Safford, who was a Lieutenant-Colonel with the "Green Mountain Boys" during the Revolutionary War and the Battle for Bennington in 1777.

Most famous among the headstones is the grave of author Robert Frost. Revolutionary War Soldiers who fought and died at the Battle of Bennington in August 1777 are also buried in the cemetery. There is a total of 75 soldiers buried on the grounds.

Chartered in 1749, Bennington was the first town created in Vermont. In June of 1761 twenty-two settlers from Massachusetts came to Old Bennington, in the wilderness of Vermont, under the leadership of Captain Samuel Robinson to form a Congregational community centered around a village green and a meeting house.
