Colorado State University will issue an updated Atlantic seasonal #hurricane forecast tomorrow, June 11th at 11am EDT.

With this Atlantic hurricane season anticipated to be an active one, an early season lack of hurricane activity may be taken by some as a sign the outlooks were overdone. Keep in mind that on average, the first hurricane doesn't form until late July/early August:

NOAA says no tropical cyclone activity expected in Atlantic or eastern North Pacific (to 180°W) in next 7 days. We've had 0 storms in Western Hemisphere (WH) so far in 2024. Only twice since 1970 (in 1994 and 2009) has WH had 0 named storms (>=39 mph) thru 6/17. #hurricane

While North Atlantic ocean heat content is well above normal, one place where it is most anomalous is in the Caribbean. Today's Caribbean ocean heat content on average isn't reached until Sep. 2nd and was never reached in 2018. High ocean heat content favors #hurricane activity.

ECMWF calls for busy Atlantic #hurricane season with ~21 named storms, ~11 hurricanes and Accumulated Cyclone Energy 200% of normal (~250 total ACE) between July-December. Ensemble average calls for borderline #LaNina and very warm Atlantic for Aug-Oct (peak of Atlantic season)
