Kurukshetra, the land where the epic battle of Mahabhrata took place, is an important pilgrim site and a holy land. The place is also where the Krishna preached Bhagawad Gita to Arjuna and sage Manu wrote Manusmriti. This place is a must-visit for people who are interested in history and Indian mythology.

Kurukshetra (literally "Region of the Kurus"), also known as Dharmakshetra (the "Region of Dharma"), was the battleground on which the Kurukshetra War was fought. The first Mahābhārata says that this site was chosen because a sin committed on land was forgiven because of the land's sanctity.

In kurukshetra, the scene of the greatest Mahabharata war, iron arrows and spearheads have been excavated and rated by thermoluminance to 2,800 B.C.E., the approximate date of the war given in Mahabharata itself. It is caused by a high iron content in the soil interacting with the oxygen in the atmosphere. Any blood having been spilled at Kurukshetra 5,000 years ago would not make the soil red now. Pigmentation caused by blood 5,000 years ago would no longer be present in the soil now.
