/ˈtʃes.tə.fiːld/ us. /ˈtʃes.tɚ.fiːld/ a type of sofa, often covered in leather. Chesterfields have arms that curve outwards and that are at the same height as the back of the sofa. The arms and back have buttons set into the leather or material.

One of Derbyshire's most popular and historic market towns, Chesterfield is perhaps most famous for the distinctive Crooked Spire. The distinctive Crooked Spire dominates the skyline.

The company was acquired by American Tobacco Company in 1898, who manufactured Chesterfields until 1911. In 1912, the brand was taken over by Liggett & Myers and production moved to Durham, North Carolina. The brand was acquired by Philip Morris (now Altria) in 1999.

However, the Roman fort gave its name to Chesterfield. However, by the 10th century, a village had grown up at Chesterfield. The Saxon word for a Roman fort or town was caester and their word for grazing land was feld. So the village was Caester Feld.
