  1. But Netflix's new show Kingdom, a six-episode saga set in 15th-century Korea, had me hooked from the get-go. Streaming globally Friday, Jan. 25, Kingdom is a wonderfully shot and scripted take on the zombie genre, one that feels like a period drama -- just with undead monsters as a bonus.

Kingdom is an epic period drama and one that will have you glued to the tv. It reportedly cost $1.78m per episode to make, and while that is excessive, the setting, costumes and cinematography are simply stunning. Visually the whole show is breathtaking. And the subtitles mean that you have to stay engaged to follow the story.

The double threat of the Cho family and zombies makes Kingdom constantly gripping and interesting. The beautiful setting of 1500s Korea is also a breath of fresh air. The scenery is gorgeous, and the sets and costumes look fantastic.

Fans of zombies are sure to love Kingdom and the reinvigorated setting and tone of the series works so well to heighten tensions. While the series does suffer a little from overacting and misplaced humour, for the most part Kingdom does an excellent job across its 6 episodes to never feel like it’s outstayed its welcome.
