    A variety of nanosensors, for example, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and nanojets, has been designed and applied for heavy metal detection. In this review, we present a brief overview of the recent advances in the fabrication of novel nanosensors that provide potential solutions to heavy metal remediation.
    Many nanosensors have also been designed and used to detect and monitor heavy metals in natural environmental media. Highly sensitive and selective nanosensors can be designed and modified to accommodate a large number of environmental applications.
    Although tremendous progress and innovation of QDs-based nanosensors for heavy metal ions detection have been achieved, there still be huge challenges in toxicity, specificity, portability, multi-metal co-detection and degradation during the detection.
