    East Chicago is home to several large employers, including Amoco Oil Co., Union Tank Car, American Steel Foundries, USG Corp., and St. Catherine Hospital. For 105 years, it was also home to Inland Steel Company (1893–1998). The city is known for the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal complex.
