Influential Brazilian politicians from Brasília
He was the 35th president of Brazil from 2003 to 2011, and is widely regarded as one of the most popular and influential leaders in the country's history. He also served as the chief of staff under his successor Dilma Rousseff, until he was removed by a corruption investigation. He was born in Pernambuco, but moved to Brasília in 1975 to work as a union leader and later as a congressman.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva
She was the 36th president of Brazil from 2011 to 2016, and the first woman to hold the office. She was also the chief of staff under Lula, and a former guerrilla fighter against the military dictatorship. She was impeached and removed from office in 2016 on charges of violating fiscal laws.
