Naples originated as a natural creek side rest stop on the old Wild Horse Trail and later became a railroad station. Naples evolved into a rugged frontier village centered in rich mining and timber country.
It was named after the Italian city, from which many immigrant laborers had come who worked on building the first rail line through the region around 1890.
