Moldova's dating scene is a unique blend of traditional and modern perspectives. While chivalry and traditional gender roles are still prevalent, more and more Moldovans are adopting a progressive and egalitarian approach to dating.

Moldova has a significant gap in labour force participation between men and women. Women's participation in the labour force tends to be lower compared to men, with factors such as traditional gender roles, childcare responsibilities and limited access to certain professions contributing to this gap.

Moldovans, sometimes referred to as Moldavians (Romanian: moldoveni [moldoˈvenʲ], Moldovan Cyrillic: молдовень), are a Romanian-speaking ethnic group and the largest ethnic group of the Republic of Moldova (75.1% of the population as of 2014) and a significant minority in Romania, Italy, Ukraine and Russia.

The official state language of Moldova is Romanian, which is the native language of 78.6% of the population (as of the 2014 Census); it is also spoken as a primary language by other ethnic minorities. Gagauz, Russian, and Ukrainian languages are granted official regional status in Gagauzia and/or Transnistria.
