    After returning in 1688 to Canada, he served at missions in western Canada and died at Sault Ste. Marie at the age of eighty.     It is one of the Canadian Explorer roses that Svejda developed and named in honour of legendary Canadian explorers. 'Charles Albanel' is a medium-sized, very bushy Hybrid Rugosa variety, 2 to 4 ft (0.61–1.22 m) in height, with a 3 to 4 ft (0.91–1.22 m) spread.
    Charles Albanel arrived at Quebec aboard one of three ships that moored there on the twenty-third of August, 1649. Late the following month he carried on to Ville Marie (Montreal.) There he joined a fellow Jesuit, Jean de Quen, who had explored the Lac Saint Jean (Lake St. John) area two years before.
