    In 2012, the Federal Bureau of Prisons opened a federal, 1200-bed medium security facility, which employs approximately 350 people. Berlin is located at 44°28′07″N 71°11′02″W (44.4686, −71.1839), in northern New Hampshire, north of the White Mountains, in the state's North Country region.
    Pulp and paper mills remain the economic mainstay of the area. The Nansen Ski Jump, built in 1936, is one of the highest steel tower jumps in the United States.     Take NH-115 North to its northern terminus in Jefferson, New Hampshire at US-2. From here follow US-2 East to the intersection with New Hampshire Route 16 in Gorham, New Hampshire then take NH-16 North to Berlin. From the north you could come in a couple different ways.
    Berlin is served by New Hampshire State Routes 110, and 16. NH-110's Eastern terminus is in downtown Berlin, and NH-16 winds its way north from Portsmouth up through Berlin reaching its northern terminus at the border of Magalloway, Maine. The nearest Interstate Highway to Berlin is I-93, and it is approximately an hour's drive from the city.
