    The Upper Silesia Brewery, also called Browary Górnoล›lฤ…skie w Zabrzu, is a brewery in Zabrze, Poland, owned by the Van Pur brewery conglomerate. The industrial brewery in Zabrze was founded in 1860 by Loebal Haendler.
    The area is predominantly known for its heavy industry (mining and metallurgy). Upper Silesia is situated on the upper Oder River, north of the Eastern Sudetes mountain range and the Moravian Gate, which form the southern border with the historic Moravia region.
    Upper Silesia ( Polish: Górny ลšlฤ…sk โ“˜ ; Silesian: Gลฏrny ลšlลฏnsk, Gลrny ลšlลnsk; Czech: Horní Slezsko; German: Oberschlesien โ“˜ ; Silesian German: Oberschläsing; Latin: Silesia Superior) is the southeastern part of the historical and geographical region of Silesia, located today mostly in Poland, with small parts in the Czech Republic.
    In 1991, after privatization, the brewery in Zabrze was transformed into a company wholly owned by the State Treasury under the name of Upper Silesian Plant Brewing SA. However, the firm struggled financially and in 1999 declared bankruptcy. They survived restructuring and were purchased by Van Pur Group in 2005.
