    Stanford in the Vale is a village and civil parish in the Vale of White Horse about miles (5.6 km) southeast of Faringdon and 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Wantage. It is part of the historic county of Berkshire, however since 1974, it has been administered as a part of Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population 2,093.
    The current history of Stanford in Vale has been produced from both documentary research and recent archaeological fieldwork undertaken in the village by the Stanford in the Vale Archaeological Research Project.

    Stanford in the Vale is thought to be named after a stone ford in the area. It may have been a crossing of the River Ock, some say where the bridge now spans the river before Stanford Mill, however others speculate it was actually a crossing of Frogmore Brook.     Stanford in the Vale Village Hall was opened by Pam Ayres, writer of popular humorous verse and a native of this village, on 9 July 1983. It has been continually improved and updated ever since. In 1999 the hall was extended with an extra small hall. Both halls have their own kitchen facilities and toilets, including disabled.
