    Cameron, WV ( West Virginia ), on Grave Creek in Marshall County, was incorporated in 1861 and named for Samuel Cameron, a right-of-way agent for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, which fueled the growth of the town. Cameron thrived until the B&O railroad line was de-commissioned and removed, and many of its commercial buildings stand empty.
    Cameron is located in Marshall County which is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is part of the Wheeling, West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, the population was 35,519. Its county seat is Moundsville. Its southern border is the Mason-Dixon line.
    The Cameron City Pool is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The following parks and public recreation areas are located within 20 miles of Cameron. Cameron is located approximately 20 miles southwest of the county seat at Moundsville, West Virginia, and 30 miles south of Wheeling, West Virginia.
    At this time the honor of naming the town was given to an Irishman named David McConaughey who christened it Cameron in honor of his friend Samuel Cameron, a railroad official of prominence, who in 1853 took cholera at Moundsville, died, and was taken to Charles Town, Jefferson County, Virginia, for burial.
