    Urumqi (乌鲁木齐) is the capital of Xinjiang which was called Dihu (迪化) and nowadays is often abbreviated to Wu City (乌市). The word - Urumqi means "beautiful pasture" in Mongol.
    Although it is remote, its history can be traced back to the Neolithic Age. It used to be a residence of some northern nomadic people. From1755 onwards, the start of fast development got underway in this area and the city got the name “Urumqi”. In 1884, it changed its name to “Dihua” and was regarded as a political center.
    Hong Shan (Red Mountain) is the symbol of Ürümqi, located in Hongshan Park. People's Park, south of Hongshan Park. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum ( 新疆维吾尔自治区博物馆 ), which was completely rebuilt in the early 2000s.
