The city is known for its modern architecture, high-rise buildings, and luxurious shopping malls. The city has experienced rapid growth and development in recent years, largely due to Qatar's vast reserves of oil and natural gas, which have made the country one of the wealthiest in the world.

It's pretty much the norm for both locals and foreign residents to wear trousers, even in the height of the Qatari summer. It's actually required in public places. But if you're struggling with the heat, then you can wear shorts, but only if they're below the knee.

Doha is slightly more compact than Dubai and with young kids in tow it may be easier to go from vibrant souks selling spices and traditional handicrafts to the beach, to the stunning Museum of Islamic Art or strolling along the Corniche.

Arabic is the official language of Qatar, with Qatari Arabic or Gulf Arabic the local dialect. Qatari Sign Language is the language of the deaf community. English is commonly used as a second language, and a rising lingua franca, especially in commerce, those from other countries, and the medical community.
