    Katherine Airport / RAAF Base Tindal, Northern Territory (KTR) Like most commercial airports in the Territory, Katherine Airport is steeped in military history. In fact, Katherine Airport is the only airport on our list that is based on an active RAAF base.
    The site of the airfield is now home to the Katherine Museum. With the extension of the North Australia Railway in 1926, a bridge across the Katherine River opened, allowing local businesses to move from the rail head town of Emungalan to more favourable sites on the southern bank of the river in the new township of Katherine.
    Civil apron is not available to aircraft above 25,000KG MTOW Code B aircraft without a pavement concession from Katherine Town Council (KTC). Prior approval from KTC required for parking of all ACFT ABV 5,700KG. The Domestic Terminal has limited ground handling services, please contact KTC for further information.
    Security surveillance cameras operate throughout the civilian side of the Airport and an electronic security gate system is also in place to prevent unauthorised persons access airside. All users of the Katherine Tindal Civilian Airport must be current holders of a valid ASIC (Aviation Security Identification Card).
